Why Hire a USCG captain?
Have you ever been on the water when your boat stalls and you have no idea why? Maybe it was an easy fix, or you may need to get towed, but you have no idea who to call for help. What about tubing? You had a great day playing on the water, then by accident the rope gets into the motor. What do you do? Depending on what waterways you are on, you need to know the Navigation Rules, you do not want the DNR or Coast Guard stopping your boat, you have no idea what they want from you. These are just a few things that could happen when you are on the water.
Now I may scare you away from owning a boat with all the responsibilities it has to own one not to mention the cost. So how do you get on the water? It’s easy to rent a boat from a marina. Then hire the captain, then you won’t have to stress about all you have to do to keep your party safe on the water. When hiring a Captain they will know the area better, so it can be an educational tour at the same time. Depending on where you are, you may want to see dolphins, whales, or manatees but you have no idea where to find them, but your Captain does. If you are on vacation, for example in Florida, you need to be careful where to stop and swim because you don’t want to swim with an alligator or a shark.
Safety is the priority! No matter which body of water you are on. If you are unsure how to make that happen. Find yourself a captain that will take you out without the hassle or worry with this noted, you will have the time of you life in the safest manner possible!
When hiring a captain make sure they have USCG Captains license then you will know they are certified to take you out on a tour. When the tour starts, listen to the captain if they say it’s unsafe to go North because of the wind but if we go West side it is safer and will be less rocky. Trust them, they want you to have a smooth trip, not a trip where it’s so rocky that you may turn green, and the side of the boat is your best friend. I have to say that I have never felt as safe on the water! Since I was young I have always wanted to enjoy myself boating but a few occasions I went out the man (AKA my husband) decided to have a drink or two and that made me feel uneasy and worried. I am so grateful to have met you Brenna! I look forward to spending more time on the water with you. Then the hubby can drink and I can be at ease!
