Holiday at Cayo Costa Island
When I was on my first journey to Cayo Costa in Florida, I was not sure what I was going to see but extremely excited to see why so many people go to this island. I was getting trained by Captain Jim. Jim has been in this area for 8 years; I learned so much from him. We saw so many beautiful parts of the island that a normal tour would not take you to see, so a very personal touch. I was not on this trip to enjoy myself for the day, it was to learn what the gulf can do, learn the tide, the wind and most importantly making sure I know where it is shallow, with this noted, I ended up having the time of my life and getting an experience that I would love to share with you as well.
I am a lake kind of girl (that is what we get when we grow up in Iowa), I love the lakes but they are way different than the Gulf of Mexico. The ocean always keeps us on our toes and offers sites to explore unlike any lake.
Cayo Costa is a beautiful unspoiled island accessible only by boat or kayak, with local artists and sea shell galore. Get lucky and find your own fabulous puka's for that necklace you always wanted.

Why I would love to take you to this island? It is a fully unspoiled gulf coast island which has dunes, beaches and a lot of freedom to explore. This island is unique but its only accessible by boat or kayak, this former fishing ground of the Calusa Indians features nine miles of undeveloped shoreline for swimming, snorkeling, shelling, fishing, birdwatching and exploration along with several walking and bicycling trails through the island’s interior. You may see dolphins, manatees, and sea turtles. My favorite thing about this island is that you can go camping, it’s just like Gilligan’s Island all by yourself it’s an experience I would recommend.
Floridas local artists
There are local artists who make animals out of shells, this is definitely a treat everyone should see! During the winter the artists will be there at least 3 times a month, if not more, tending to their art animals. If you are lucky you get to meet them. A beautiful woman by the name of Darlene greeted me and if I take you here, I will do all I can to make sure you get to be greeted by her as well!
