Captain Young is Hiring

Captain Young is Hiring!

We are excited to announce that we are hiring for next season! Are you ready to have some fun in the sun and the water then this opportunity is for you! Get paid to be outside and show passengers what fun they can have with Captain Young! This is open for full time or part time work. All depends on how much you want to be on the water.

Who are we looking for exactly? First on the list is the USCG Captains that already have their licenses! Having USCG Captains part of our team is exactly how we can ensure the safety of our tours. Not only our tours but also the safety of the whole lake we are on. Nothing goes unnoticed! As you know Captain Young Travels is fully committed to safety first and as part of being a business on water this needs to be our priority.

This brings us to the second potentials for hire. That would be anyone who loves the water, or who has enjoyed boating for a number of years. The reason we can offer this as part of our service is because we want to invest in our waters. The best way to do that is to bring out those who enjoy it. With this said, we can offer to train you and utilize those hour on the water for your potential licensing of becoming a certified USCG Captain. Becoming a USCG captain is not necessarily hard but it requires having a certain amount of hours on the water as well as to fill other criteria. This is where we come in. You will get hands on training with Captain Young herself! She will be there to make sure you learn the ropes from a pro and someone who loves being on the water herself. There is costs associated with getting this license of course, we will help you achieve this by investing in you. We are firm believers in a two way street and ultimately we want this to be a long haul project for us and for you. This is why we are looking for those who really want to see the longevity of this.

Note:

My goal is to make all lakes safe! I have seen a lot of accidents where inexperienced boaters are out on the water and do not know how to handle certain situations. They were either drinking or doing things that they thought were fun to them without thinking of safety of others.

The training season will start in April. This particular training will be done at a lake as agreed upon with you and Captain Young during the interviewing process. Class room training will also be held if you do not CPR training which will be mandatory. Most of the field training will be done on a pontoon boat with the occasional speed boat and fishing boat. This will give you experience on multiple vessels.

The actual working season starts in May. This will be determined by weather most likely but in essence it starts Memorial Day weekend 2023! This is when we start booking tours and getting out on the water as the Best Captaining business in Iowa!

Note from Captain young

The off season times help us gear up and learn new things that can make our boating experience that much better. With this said, If you have any suggestions we are all ears. Please send up your thoughts (HERE). There are 342 lakes in Iowa. We cannot service them all, of course, not all of these offer boat rentals either. The ones we will focus on currently will be Saylorville, Big Creek, Red Rock, Okoboji and Sun Valley Lake. Captain Young has already formed relationships with these lakes and they are just as excited to have us out there as we are to be there! We want to fill these lakes with operators and Captains!

Note from Captain Young herself:

My goal is to make all lakes safe! I have seen a lot of accidents where inexperienced boaters are out on the water and do not know how to handle certain situations. They were either drinking or doing things that they thought were fun to them without thinking of safety of others. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt or worse. This is probably the hardest part on patrolling lakes. With this said, safety is our key to success!
