The Blox Experience

The Blox experience as a whole was not what I thought it would be, it was much better than expected.  Yes, there was competition, some took it super seriously; some people were there to learn, some were just having fun.  When I was coming onto the show, I wanted to be competitive, I was all about being the winner, after 30 minutes I knew this was way bigger than just a game show.  I met so many entrepreneurs on the first day before filming started all over the country.  The one thing I learned being an entrepreneur can be super lonely but when you have 55 entrepreneurs in one room you feel welcomed.  The first night was a meet and greet, we got to meet the production team, and all the contestants for our show. We got the rules of the games, what to expect through the week, they said this will be mentally draining week we have ever done. Boy they were right.

I am not going to write about what happened every day, who won, or anything like that because you need to watch the show to find out. What I will share is stuff that will not be aired because it was when we were at our hotel lobby getting to know each other after filming was done every day. This is where the real stories come from.

Experience

Friendship! Dedication! Enthusiasm! All the keys to making something wonderful become true reality!

We had a Physical Therapist who brought his table to help people throughout the week. I called him super Dave from ReNew for all the help he did through the week.I totally did this for my lower back and boy did it help, but this isn’t a story about me.  I was sitting on the side just watching what was going on. I saw the PT working on someone that couldn’t lift her arm all the way up.  As I was watching him figuring out where her pain was, he did something, and he asked her to lift her arm up.  She was able to put it up, it was so emotional she started to cry because she had been trying to get this fix for two years and never got any help.  In one 15 – 20-minute session he was able to help her!

He then showed her what she needs to do daily so she will not have pain in her shoulders anymore.  As this was going on other people were watching, you saw tears in their eyes, I tell you it was one of the most magical things I saw.

As the week went on, I started seeing people forming bonds, helping each other out, some became business partners.  I know I formed a strong bond with one business owner that I am looking forward to starting a podcast with.  By the end of the week, I formed a lot of bonds with people that I will be working with in the future.

Fun

Joke of the century

The one thing I must be proud of is that I played a joke supposed to be just on one person.  As I started this joke, I just wanted to play it on Tiffany from Datenight Decathlon but to be able to make it work I needed help from Tamara from 2fers.  At first, she didn’t want to, then she said if I do this you can’t turn this back on me.  Of course, I said never, it gave me even a bigger idea to double cross her and have the joke on her.  I never ever thought it would go so far that it ended up being a joke on all my castmates but I was able to make a small joke into a huge joke on the cast.  I hope it makes it to the show but who knows if it will, I can tell you that people came up to me and asked how I made this so perfect.  All I can tell them was it was a small joke, never had it planned to hit the whole cast but as it was going on just like high school rumors started. I just decided to let it go and see where it goes, it was the most perfect joke I have ever done.

So far, I am just sharing how much fun I had which I did, but all seriously I learned a lot about my own business.  I was gung ho with one idea thinking this idea will make Captain Young Travels huge, but as I was going through the classes and competition.  It wasn’t until the last day that I realized maybe I was way over my head on this idea. I won’t lie I got super frustrated thinking maybe this was all a waste of time and what I thought was right is wrong.  I got so emotional that night I tried to not show my emotions, but as I was walking to Quick Trip, my friend noticed I was thinking hard. She was able to get me to open up, this is when I realized I really did need this.  The words of encouragement from her made me feel better about myself and the idea I have.  I had to learn this so I can be able to make the right decisions, patience is the key, I wanted it all now but there are steps to get where I want to be.

When I got home it was hard coming back. It was such an awesome week I didn’t want to end.  I slept a lot the first few days then I had to work on tours for Labor Day weekend.  That first week was hard for me because I had to talk to my team to see which route we should go. Route A or Route B, once again I was stuck with the big picture. It was like I forgot everything I learned. Luckily, I have a good person on my team that made me write down what I want. When I did that, the vision became clear.  With the Blox, and my team, Captain Young Travels has some big things coming in 2023, we will have new team members part of Captain Young Travels and you may see some of my alumni from the Blox joining us on this journey.  Until then keep an eye on Captain Young, be ready for season 5 of the Blox, this will be the best because of the people I met!
